Hydrothermally grown emeralds is our primary product. This method was developed in the late 1960s by a team of young scientists, led by late researcher Alexander Lebedev, to whom many discoveries of this process are attributed. We grow several types of emeralds and each type produces different result.
The first major breakthrough for Tairus was the successful production of hydrothermal ruby in 1993. This was the first time ruby was synthesized in a hydrothermal environment commercially and Tairus remains to date the only world producer of hydrothermal ruby. The color and the quality of this product is superior to the competition in many ways - it has no air bubbles, like the flame fusion process, for instance. The major force in the development of ruby was scientist Alexander Dokukin, now a Deputy Director of the United Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy.
The next major achievement for Tairus was syntheses of blue sapphire in a hydrothermal process. Due to some production limitations (i.e. titanium is not easily absorbed by the aluminum oxide), it was extremely difficult to have blue color spread evenly through the entire crystal. This was achieved in 1996 by Dr. Victor Thomas . Beside the blue, Tairus produces variety of sapphire colors: yellow, Padparadscha (orange), pink, green.
Hydrothermal Aquamarine and other colored Beryl
The obstacle of penetrating beryl with iron was overcome only in 1997 and a commercial production has started in the summer of the same year. This was a result of many years of research of Tairus’ scientists. Other colored Beryls followed: red, purple, bi-color, Paraiba color, blue.
Horizontal Crystallization (Floating Method)
Alexandrite, Ruby & Chrysoberyl
This process was developed by Dr. Vladimir Gurov, a formidable researcher in this filed. To-date, Tairus is the only world producer of Lab-grown Alexandrite by this method.
